"Future Planning for Individuals Who Have Disabilities"

Thursday, March 18, 2010; 9:00 am-12:30 pm; 3 CEUs

About the seminar:

Planning for the future of an individual who has a disability is critical! For some individuals, it is difficult to begin planning. Perhaps they do not know what to do or where to begin. Many issues need to be addressed, e.g. legal, financial (e.g. maintaining government benefits), who will watch over the person, living arrangements and more. It is important that professionals can guide clients in the issues needing planning, and perhaps how to choose individuals who can assist them.

About the speaker:

Kathleen C. Morris, M.S., L.P.C.

Kathy has worked in a variety of occupations. She has been working with people who have disabilities since 1975 in a variety of services. For example, she was the first person on the west coast to provide on-the-job training for individuals working in the community. She has also worked as a counselor in several jobs, and is currently with the Community Fund Management Foundation, a private not-for-profit organization administering special needs trusts.

Objectives:

By attending this seminar, participants will be able to:

1. Name three topics to be addressed in future planning for an individual with disabilities;

2. Prioritize topics to be addressed first when a client begins to plan for the future of an individual with a disability;

3. Identify when the plan should be reviewed.
